Umesh Timilsina (born January 31, 1991) is a dedicated Nepali academic and horticulturist from Bhaktapur, currently residing in Mahottari. He serves as an Assistant Professor (Horticulture) at Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) in Chitwan, Nepal, a position he has held since 2022.
Mr. Timilsina has a strong academic foundation in agricultural science. He is currently enrolled as a PhD scholar in the Department of Horticulture at Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Nepal. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (2014) from Institute of Agriculture and animal Science (IAAS), Tribhuwan University and his Master of Science in Agriculture with a specialization in Horticulture (2016) from AFU, achieving first-division marks in both degrees. Prior to his current role, he gained valuable teaching experience as an Assistant Lecturer at Purbanchal University for nearly five years.
His research is focused on improving the quality and shelf life of horticultural crops, particularly fruits. He has authored several articles in journals, with a significant body of work dedicated to the post-harvest management and ripening regulation of bananas (cv. Malbhog) in the Chitwan region. His broader areas of interest include pomology, post-harvest physiology, protected horticulture, and vegetable seed production. His expertise has been recognized through a funded research project on mango shelf life awarded by AFU's Directorate of Research and Extension.
Committed to continuous professional development, Mr. Timilsina has participated in numerous advanced trainings, including workshops on statistical analysis (using R, Gen Stat, SPSS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), the DSSAT model for climate change, and faculty development in instructional pedagogy. His skills extend to data analysis, training delivery, and seminar coordination. He is a life member of the Nepal Horticulture Society.
